PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc visits 16th Corps in Binh Phuoc province

VNHNO - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited the soldiers and officers of the 16th Corps on the morning of August 20, as part of his working visit to the southern province of Binh Phuoc.

The Corps is responsible for border defence and security, as well as economic development in the three provinces of Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Binh Phuoc.

Briefing the PM, Major General Pham Ngoc Tuan, Commander of the 16th Corps, stated that the Corps has helped nearly 25,000 local residents settle their lives and find jobs over the past 20 years.

The Corps has assisted the people where it is stationed develop the local economy by growing coffee, rubber, cashew nuts, pepper and other crops.

The 16th Corps has also worked closely with the local authorities to strengthen the defences at strategic locations.

Speaking at the meeting, PM Phuc praised the efforts of the 16th Corps’ soldiers, officers and employees in maintaining the friendship and social order in the Vietnam-Cambodia border area, as well as in supporting local economic development.

Concerning the national defence tasks, he urged the Corps to carry out strict training regimes and stand ready for combat, while properly exercising military diplomacy with the Cambodian provinces bordering Vietnam.

On the occasion, PM Phuc visited and inquired after a number of soldiers, officers and members of the local ethnic community who were participating in a sports festival at the Corps’ stadium./.
