VNHNO - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) to propose breakthrough development solutions to turn Vietnam into a technological powerhouse in the future.

The PM made the request while working with the ministry on September 8 in what was the PM’s first direct working session with the ministry over the past 10 years.

PM Phuc emphasised that during the Industry 4.0, the MIC needs to focus on the area of information technology while developing institutions to create breakthrough developments in this area as information technology brings about great added value.

The mission of the ministry is to create a favourable environment for national development in this area, the PM noted.

Acting Minister of Information and Communications, Nguyen Manh Hung, said that Vietnam currently has nearly 50,000 firms in the area of technology with a total revenue of approximately US$100 billion. With huge growth potential and a large market, the MIC expects that Vietnam will have 100,000 firms in this field over the next few years.

The minister added that these firms are the foundation for Vietnam to promote the application development of technology in all areas to contribute to improving labour productivity, boosting economic development, and enhancing scientific and technological potential in the future./.
